ALITHSA Volunteer Recognition Program

Coach Nino Mandile - U12 Girls Coach

ALITHSA would like to recognize U12 Girls Coach Nino Mandile for his "above and beyond" volunteer work.

One of the nominations Nino received said:

"Earlier in the season I refereed a match the maroon team (Hurricanes) played in and they were soundly beaten ... The kids were struggling. Last Saturday, at the U12 girls tournament at AMS, the maroon team (Hurricanes) won their match against a white team. The kids played very hard. Their skills had improved. Their team spirit was very high. The coaches as well as parents and players were having a great time. They are winners. They sure turned things around for themselves and should be proud. Their coaches get a thumbs up in my view. I hope they realize how special it is to work so hard and get as far as they have come."

We took a few minutes of Nino's time to get to know him a lttle better.

ALITHSA:

How long have you been involved in soccer and in what forms?

Nino:

I have been involved in Soccer most of my life: Park District Travel Teams, indoor and coaching.

ALITHSA:

What are the three top things for you as a U12 coach?

Nino:

The most important things for me as a coach, win or lose is teaching the girls proper skills as well as boosting their confidence as a player. I wanted the team to finish the season as more skilled and confident soccer players.

ALITHSA:

You have apparently turned this team around with a very impressive tournament win against an accomplished opponent. What was the turning point and how can we learn from your experience?

Nino:

The turning point began when the girls applied their skills together as a team; it was a whole new team that I've never seen before.

ALITHSA:

Tell us about your most special soccer memory or event.

Nino:

My most memorable soccer event was a very long time ago; I was fortunate enough to see Pele play in a small stadium in Chicago.

ALITHSA:

Anything special you would like to share with all of us in ALITHSA about being a volunteer?

Nino:

I want to thank all the parents for being very supportive.

I also want let everyone know how proud I am of my girls (the Hurricanes) in the end they put all their fears behind them and played their hearts out.

ALITHSA:

Thank you Nino!
